Congress has been out of session for the past two weeks and returns to DC on Monday. There remain several “must pass” bills to get across the finishline, but again internal politics may slow things down. The to-do list includes reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which always has political implications and potential funding for military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. However, before Congress can get to any of that the Senate must consider the House passed impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. There is also a looming threat to unseat Speaker Johnson raised by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Due to retirements the House Republican majority has quickly dwindled to just a single vote, so should the motion to vacate the Speaker come to a vote, we could be in for another round of self-inflicted GOP drama. While Congress fiddles, the Biden Administration just keeps pumping out new policy which is keeping your NAW team busy.
