Brian Wild, Chief Government Relations Officer at NAW, released the following statement praising key policies in the Continuing Resolution (CR) and urging Congress to pass it:
“We urge Congress not to make perfect the enemy of the good. Although the CR is not perfect, shutting down the government is never the right option. Businesses and workers depend on a functioning government, and by passing this continuing resolution, Congress can preserve critical services while still incorporating key policies that NAW supports.
The CR includes a one-year delay of the Corporate Transparency Act, a major victory for 30 million law abiding small businesses, which under the CTA are required to file and update reports with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, listing the name, personal address, and driver’s license of any individual of any beneficial owners. Failing to comply will result in fines of $590 per day and felony charges with up to two years imprisonment. A federal judge in Texas recently blocked enforcement of the CTA but this ruling is being challenged by the government. Given the short timeframe, Congress needs to provide certainty to small businesses.
The CR also includes the Promoting Resilient Supply Chain Act, legislation to strengthen our nation’s supply chain. In recent years, supply chain disruptions have hammered American families and businesses, and this bipartisan legislation will provide new tools for the Department of Commerce to promote resilient and strong supply chains to help wholesaler-distributors and other parts of the supply chain.”
The National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW) is one of America’s leading trade associations, representing the $8.2 trillion wholesale distribution industry. Our industry employs more than 6 million workers throughout the United States, accounting for 1/3 of the U.S. GDP. 35,000 wholesale distribution companies operate in nearly 150,000 places of business across North America, including all 50 states.
