The National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW) applauds President Trump’s newly released AI Action Plan, which outlines a comprehensive and forward-looking approach to federal artificial intelligence (AI) policy. We are particularly encouraged to see several of NAW’s recommendations—submitted during the Administration’s Request for Information process in March—reflected in the plan, including:
- A federal framework to promote long-term AI innovation and infrastructure development through engagement with industry stakeholders like wholesaler-distributors
- Leveraging existing federal laws and funding programs to reduce the regulatory complexity created by inconsistent state AI rules
- Clarifying potential legal barriers to adoption, including a review of past Federal Trade Commission (FTC) investigations
- Workforce strategies that prioritize AI skills development and identify high-priority occupations for AI readiness
- Updated tax guidance confirming that AI training programs may qualify as eligible educational assistance under Section 132 of the Internal Revenue Code
NAW has long been a leader of AI adoption in the distribution industry especially through our role in the AI Applied Consortium (AAIC). The AAIC promotes responsible innovation through strategic research, advisory councils, and cross-sector collaboration.
NAW looks forward to continuing to work with the Administration to ensure the outcomes from the Action Plan support further AI deployment and adoption across the wholesale distribution industry.
