Just two weeks ago, Republicans hosted their convention in Milwaukee, WI. At the time, polls showed President Trump surging and President Biden in a freefall. In key states like Montana, Ohio, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, the Trump lead was large enough that down-ballot Democrats running for reelection began to panic. Ultimately pressure from Congressional leaders and Democratic donors convinced Biden to pass the torch… and now the race restarts. Months of polling, opposition research, messaging and media materials are tossed out the window. Technically, this is still the same race between ideas, policies, and party platforms, but changing the top of the ticket from an 81-year-old white male, to a 59-year-old Black and Asian American woman is a dramatic shift altering the tactics, tone and tenor and potentially the outcome of the campaigns up and down the ticket.
However, as your trade association, NAW remains unchanged. We support pro-business politicians and issues, working with candidates on both sides to help them understand the supply chain and the value employers bring to their employees, local communities, and our national economy. While politics keep spinning, we remain focused on the policies, legislation, and regulations, which is the “why” of why we advocate.
