California Attorney General Launches Surveillance Pricing Probe: California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) has announced the launch of an investigation into surveillance pricing. Bonta’s announcement comes as California — like many other states — looks to prevent companies from using personal data to set individualized prices.
“We need to know whether businesses are charging people different prices for the same good or service — and if they’re complying with the law,” Bonta said in a statement. “Practices like surveillance pricing may undermine consumer trust and unfairly raise prices.”
