We are concluding the final week of the first quarter with Congress about to begin a two-week recess before returning after Easter. The hope is that sometime this week, a legislative breakthrough happens to at least fund TSA if not the entirety of the Department of Homeland Security, which is now in its 38th day without funding. I am not overly optimistic that it happens. Neither side is signaling they want to make a move, so airports might get even messier. Meanwhile, on the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House continues to operate without slowing down, with more news on tariffs, continued engagement in Iran, a new National AI Policy Framework, and new Department of Labor initiatives. This dichotomy between the slow pace of legislation and the fast past of executive actions is the new normal in D.C. Especially in a mid-term election year I am not optimistic that Congress will suddenly start moving quickly. I am more worried that things will get even slower as the summer approaches.
