Dayton, OH-based construction and industrial supplies distributor Winsupply appointed Ken Resuta regional development manager to develop a Greater Philadelphia expansion model that, once proven, would guide growth in other major U.S. metros.

Announced Oct. 14 and effective Sept. 28, the hire brings a 35-year Ferguson veteran to a role focused on establishing independent local companies serving residential and commercial contractors with plumbing, HVAC, hydronics and pipe, valves and fittings.

Resuta

Resuta will work with Steve Coen, director of talent and strategic acquisitions, and Winsupply’s Local Company Group. He most recently served as a Ferguson senior general manager after five years as district vice president, overseeing growth, real estate, vendor relations and acquisition integration across a five-state territory.

“After 35 years in wholesale distribution, you rarely get the chance to reshape a market from the ground up with a model like this,” Resuta said in a news release. “What excites me most is Winsupply’s true commitment to local decision-making and ownership. Backed by the financial strength of a national powerhouse, our local teams are empowered to control their own destiny and serve contractors with unmatched speed and agility.”

Winsupply holds majority stakes in more than 680 locally owned wholesalers, combining local ownership with national sourcing and business support.

In September, Winsupply said it was on track to surpass $9 billion this fiscal year as it works toward $10 billion. Sales totaled $8.4 billion in the fiscal year ended Jan. 31, 2026.

Winsupply’s website lists 11 local company opening announcements and two acquisitions so far in 2026. The three January announcements concern late-2025 openings; dates below reflect announcements.

Announced Company / market Expansion
Jan. 12 Winsupply C Pensacola, FL Electrical opening
Jan. 20 Winsupply of Burbank, North Hollywood, CA Plumbing opening
Jan. 29 Winsupply Clayton, NC Plumbing/HVAC opening
Feb. 16 Central Corp., Appleton, WI HVAC acquisition
April 29 Winsupply of East Jacksonville, FL Fire protection, fabrication and PVF opening
May 5 Rural Pipe & Supply, Jasper/Livingston, TX Waterworks acquisition
May 11 Winsupply of North Wilmington, NC HVAC opening
June 24 Cleveland Winwater, Independence, OH Waterworks opening
July 28 Winsupply Kernersville, NC HVAC opening

Sept. 9 Tulsa Winlectric, OK Electrical opening
Sept. 23 Northern Colorado Winwater, Loveland, CO Waterworks opening; also serves Wyoming
Sept. 29 Winsupply of East Baltimore, MD Fire suppression/fabrication opening

That growth is backed by plans to add 1.6 million square feet of distribution capacity through investments in Atlanta, Oklahoma City and Dayton.

“At the end of the day, this business is about people, inventory and service,” Resuta added. “Contractors want simplicity, ease of doing business and a team they know and trust. By bringing Winsupply’s national vendor relationships and product breadth directly into the market with inventory on the ground, we’re giving local contractors a legitimate, high-level partner from day one.”

MDM Analysis

The Philadelphia initiative suggests Winsupply wants a more repeatable way to build metro market share. Its recent openings show a related opportunity: add complementary product specialties where the company already has customers and infrastructure.

For smaller distributors without anywhere near the resources of a national distributor like Winsupply, the transferable lesson is to define a market entry process around a specific customer need. Identify underserved trades or service gaps, put a capable local leader in charge and align supplier commitments, inventory and delivery capacity. The discipline comes in deciding when the model is ready to travel. Track repeat business, margin after delivery costs, inventory turns and time to profitability, then use those results to set the pace of expansion. That gives a smaller distributor a way to test a nearby market and refine the economics before committing capital to the next one.
