Kian Capital Builds Door and Hardware Distribution Platform with Allen Supply, TAP
The Michigan and Tennessee distributors form the foundation of a platform targeting further acquisitions, broader product offerings and expanded services across the Midwest and Central U.S.
Private equity firm Kian Capital Partners announced Oct. 20 that it partnered with Allen Supply and subsequently added TAP Industries through an acquisition by Allen, establishing a commercial door and hardware distribution platform. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Founded in 1950, Allen Supply operates facilities in Saginaw and Traverse City, MI. The company distributes commercial metal and architectural wood doors, frames and hardware, along with residential door products. Its customers include contractors, healthcare facilities and educational institutions. Offerings also include access control systems, electronic locks, bathroom partitions and lockers.
Allen also customizes products through fabrication, cutting and raw material processing at its warehouses.
Founded in 1983, Jackson, TN-based TAP Industries distributes commercial doors, frames and hardware, along with toilet partitions and accessories. Its general contractor customers build schools, manufacturing facilities, health clinics and other commercial properties throughout Tennessee and the Central U.S.
The platform plans to grow organically and through acquisitions, with Kian supporting expansion into adjacent product categories and additional services. It is seeking commercial door and hardware distribution partners across the Midwest and Central U.S.
“The U.S. door, hardware and access control market is highly fragmented, yet dynamic, driven by aging infrastructure, rising construction and renovation activity and an increased focus on security,” Kian Partner Matt Levenson said in a news release. “We believe this is an exciting opportunity to build an innovative, full-service value-added distribution platform serving commercial clients.”
Kian Capital is a lower-middle-market-focused private investment firm that has $1.1 billion in capital under management and invests in founder- and owner-operated businesses in essential services and value-added distribution.
