The deal places the Houston-area distributor under Helena Dumont’s ownership, with its name and employees remaining in place as its founders transition out of the business.
Helena Dumont — a private investment firm based in The Woodlands, TX — announced Oct. 30 that it acquired industrial pipe, valves, fittings and flanges (PVF) distributor SMP Supply.
The acquisition of Specialty Metal Products, which does business as SMP Supply, closed Oct. 19. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Founded in 1987, SMP supplies commodity and specialty PVF products and provides valve assembly services to industrial and energy customers. Its end markets include power, petrochemicals and oil and gas. The company’s website lists five offices serving customers nationwide: Baytown, Houston, Victoria and Odessa, TX and Gonzales, LA.
SMP will continue operating under its current name, with employees remaining in their roles. Its founders will transition out of the business following the closing.
Helena Dumont President and CEO Adam Britt is serving as SMP’s interim CEO and will lead daily operations alongside SMP President Michelle Russell and Keith Thomas. Helena Dumont will provide operational and administrative support.

Britt said Helena Dumont plans to support SMP’s existing team and provide capital and operating resources for long-term growth.
Helena Dumont’s investment portfolio spans real estate, operating companies and private ventures.
