SiteOne to Trim Workforce, Branches Amid Softer Demand
The landscape supplies distributor plans job cuts and branch consolidations in 4Q as declining sales volume and higher operating costs pressure its business, despite improved quarterly earnings.
Landscape supplies distributor SiteOne Landscape Supply announced plans to reduce its workforce and consolidate or close branches during the fourth quarter of 2026, citing continued weak market demand and higher operating costs.
The Roswell, GA-based company disclosed the planned restructuring alongside its Oct. 28 third-quarter financial results, which showed modest sales growth but declining organic volume.
SiteOne expects to incur a $6 million-$8 million charge to adjusted EBITDA during 4Q related to the workforce reductions and branch consolidation efforts. It did not disclose how many employees or locations would be affected.
During the company’s earnings call, Chairman and CEO Doug Black said the workforce reductions would target certain areas throughout the organization, while the branch consolidations would largely focus on underperforming locations that can be integrated into other branches.
The moves are intended to improve SiteOne’s cost structure heading into 2027, when management expects demand conditions to remain similarly challenging.
3Q26 Performance
For the quarter ended Sept. 27, SiteOne reported net sales of $1.29 billion, up 3% year-over-year. However, organic daily sales declined 1%, as lower sales volume and hot, dry weather that delayed fall landscaping applications more than offset higher pricing. Acquisitions contributed $39.7 million, or approximately 3%, to sales growth.
Other 3Q26 results included:
- Gross profit: Increased 5% to $458.5 million, with gross margin expanding 80 basis points to 35.5%.
- Net income: Increased 8% to $63.9 million.
- Adjusted EBITDA: Increased 8% to $138.3 million, with margin improving 60 basis points to 10.7%.
- SG&A expenses: Increased to $368.7 million, or 28.6% of sales, up 20 basis points year-over-year.
SiteOne attributed its demand challenges primarily to weakness in new residential construction and repair-and-upgrade markets, while landscape maintenance and new commercial construction remained more resilient.
Looking ahead, the company expects full-year organic daily sales to be flat to down 1%, with adjusted EBITDA of $425 million-$440 million, including the planned restructuring charge.
SiteOne operates more than 690 branches and five distribution centers across 45 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces. The company has completed three acquisitions in 2026, including its August purchase of Oregon-based Patterson Nursery Sales.
