Jackie Bessette

Biography

As a second-generation association executive, Jackie Bessette has grown up in this industry. Through her high school and college years, she spent winter and summer breaks working for her father's association in the meetings department. From an early age, Jackie learned the strong chemistry that exists between a mission-driven organization and engaged volunteers.

Today Jackie is Membership Development Manager at the Door and Hardware Institute (DHI). She supports membership services and growth, with a primary focus on corporate membership and new chapter programs. In addition, she works with the Door Safety and Security Foundation events and marketing.

Jackie graduated from George Mason University with a degree in communications and a focus in public relations. She started her career at Ogilvy Public Relations with a focus on the not-for-profit market and the business-to-business sectors, including associations. She found her greatest professional fulfillment from working with volunteers interested in advancing their industry, and so she returned to association management. Experience with both professional societies and trade groups, her positions have ranged from administrative roles to management of communications and membership departments. Prior to DHI, Jackie worked for the Institute of Food Technologists, International Life Sciences Institute, and International Society for BioSafety Research.
