BiographyJohn is a partner in the National Professional Standards Group located in the Chicago office. John started his professional career in the National Office at Grant Thornton LLP but spent nearly 10 years working overseas in Europe, Asia, and Africa on accounting and auditing policy matters and professional regulation including adoption of IFRS, bank regulation, capital market regulation, university curriculum development, and continuing education design. A former project manager at the FASB, John works with clients on complex real estate and leasing accounting issues and helps monitor standard setting nationally and globally and helps prepare comment letters for Grant Thornton to the FASB and the IASB. John participated in the FASB codification project by mapping the leasing literature, inventory, cost of sales, airlines, health care, and property, plant, and equipment. John participates in several industry groups including the NAREIT auditor discussion group. John also teaches accounting theory and policy formulation at the Charles H. Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University in Chicago.
John is a CPA (Illinois), a CMA, and has a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin Madison. John is a member of the AICPA, Institute of Management Accountants, American Association of Accountants (AAA), International Association for Accounting Education and Research and the Illinois CPA Society. John serves as a Director of the Illinois CPA Society, on the IFRS task force, and is past chair of the Professional Standards Committee. John also serves on the Pre-certification Education Executive Committee of the AICPA.
