BiographyValerie Grubb is a Senior Operations and Human Capital Consultant, adept at managing major corporate initiatives in high-growth, complex work environments. Well versed in all human capital subjects, Valerie focuses on the world of leadership, and has a special expertise in making financial topics accessible and understandable to managers. She has experience working in a variety of industries, including retail, entertainment, automotive and more.
Valerie is the Principal of Val Grubb & Associates, Ltd, which she founded after stepping away from key roles within major corporations. In this role she works on a consulting basis in Operations Management and Training and supports talent/leadership development for corporations and trade associations.
Previously, Valerie served as the Vice President of Strategic Operations & Initiatives at NBC Universal. In this capacity, she oversaw business development opportunities within the Media Distribution Services group, including the sale of several NBC properties. In addition, Valerie spearheaded quality initiatives in preparation for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.
Valerie was promoted to this position after NBCU purchased Oxygen Media, where she was the Vice President of Operations. At Oxygen, Valerie led the Human Resources, Risk Management, Training, Facilities, Security, Travel and Real Estate operations for all Oxygen offices across the United States. She was seminal in the initial formation of Oxygen in 1999, the subsequent growth strategy and the media success which eventually led to the sale to NBCU in 2007.
Prior to joining Oxygen, Valerie was the Vice President of Operations for Barry Diller during the inception of InterActive Corp. While with IAC, Valerie was a significant contributor to the companyís aggressive acquisitions strategy, managing the integration of newly acquired companies into the IAC corporate umbrella.
Valerie began her career as an engineer with Allison Engine Company, a division of General Motors, which was then purchased by Rolls-Royce. She was with Rolls-Royce for 11 years, where she had increasingly senior assignments, culminating in her role as the Director of Public Affairs.
Valerie was a featured speaker at the Society of Human Resource Managementís Annual Conference in 2007 and 2008, and at SHRMís 2008 Leadership Conference. She was also a featured speaker for the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and the National Association of Insurance Women. Valerie is a member of Women in Cable Television (WICT), and served as a Prime Access Mentor to young professionals in the cable industry.
Valerie graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute) and obtained her MBA from the Kelley School of Business. She is an active member on the Supply Chain and Global Management Academy at the Kelley School and was recently elected to the Deanís Advisory Council for the Kelley School of Business (ranked #15 in the nation by Business Week).
