Sharon Cohen is the group and health care counsel with the Watson Wyatt Worldwide, Research and Information Center in Washington, DC, specializing in employee benefits. Sharon has been with Watson Wyatt since 1999 and advises consultants on complex issues concerning employer-provided health plans, dependent care assistance plans, cafeteria plans, as well as COBRA continuation coverage, HIPAA, retiree medical and other welfare benefit issues. Prior to her work at Watson Wyatt, Sharon worked for the Associate Chief Counsel, Employee Benefits and Exempt Organizations (now Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division) at the Internal Revenue Service, handling cafeteria and other welfare benefit plan issues.
Sharon serves on the Employers Council on Flexible Compensation (ECFC) Flex Advisory Council, and is a contributing author for the Employee Benefits Institute of America’s nationally acclaimed reference manual on Cafeteria Plans. She is also a contributing author to The Watson Wyatt Insider. Sharon is a frequent speaker and published writer on employee benefits matters. She is a member of the Employee Benefits Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation.
Sharon is admitted to the Maryland Bar. She holds a law degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Sharon received a Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Delaware.
