An Open Innovation Model for Wholesaler-Distributors

The top executives in wholesale distribution need to set up their organizations around innovation and establish appropriate processes and metrics to integrate innovation into the fabric of corporate culture and to build enterprise value. Innovation isn’t an option; it’s a necessity to stay in business during times of rapid change. Rapid change is happening now.

There are new technologies that are dramatically changing the economics of the future business models: Internet of Things (IoT), 3-D printing, social networking, mobile, data analytics, and cloud. These technologies enable new ways to develop products, interact with customers, partner with others, compete, and succeed.

By adopting the “open innovation model” that is popular in the both the Silicon Valley and “start-up nation” corporate cultures, top-performing distribution companies can show greater mastery in how they leverage these new technologies to plan, innovate, measure results, interact with customers, and create value.

**This blog post was inspired by recent presentations from the NAW Roundtables including the “Innovation Nation” session by Amie Gray, CEO of N3 Innovation.  The topic of “Innovation” has been a key subject area at all of the Billion Dollar Roundtables (CEO, CFO, CHRO, CIO, CLO and Operations) and Large Company Roundtables (CEO, CFO and Operations).  If you are interested of which topics are “top of mind” for NAW thought leaders, you are encouraged to view all of the Fall 2016 NAW Roundtable agendas at NAW Events.
