Organization & Job Summary

The National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW), the Washington, DC-based trade association representing the 30,000 company, $7 trillion revenue distribution industry, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our small, collaborative, and nimble team.  The candidate will manage issue-specific policies and directly engage with Capitol Hill, external stakeholders, and the association’s membership.

As part of association-wide membership and staff growth, NAW is expanding our GR team to increase our advocacy effort on a cross section of issues, to include anti-trust, environment/climate change, healthcare, and supply chain.  This individual will also join the NAW-PAC team in our federal campaign fundraising efforts.  We are looking for a self-starting and versatile individual to join us as we expand; this will be a Director or Associate Vice President position, depending on experience.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, each essential job responsibility must be performed satisfactorily.  Other responsibilities may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Represent NAW and the wholesale-distribution industry on Capitol Hill and with key stakeholders in the issue areas eventually assigned to this new position
  • Follow regulatory initiatives of the federal agencies that cover these issue areas, including submitting comments where and when appropriate and helpful to the industry
  • Participate in leadership roles in issue-area advocacy coalitions
  • Closely cooperate with the other departments at NAW to ensure that our advocacy efforts are coordinated with those departments
  • Collaborate with our communications team to support public affairs and grassroots campaigns
  • Other association activities, as assigned

Requirements: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to successfully perform the job as well as the education and experience requirements.

  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience required
  • Knowledge of the wholesale-distribution industry helpful
  • Ability to learn new issues as needed
  • Familiarity with common business technology tools
  • Ability to work creatively and flexibly in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders

Other Requirements:

  • Proven track record of relationship building, strategic/analytical thinking, and delivery of quality work product involving complex issues
  • Experience working in a for-profit or non-profit organization desired
  • Experience in federal campaign fundraising desired but not required
  • Excellent writing skills required

Work Environment:  The position is located at our headquarters in Washington, D.C., near Metro Center. Currently, we are operating a hybrid work model, where employees are in the office Tuesday-Thursday, which is a standard office environment and are given an option to work remotely most Mondays and Fridays.
