Organization & Job Summary

The National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW), the Washington, D.C.-based trade association representing the 30,000 company, $7 trillion revenue distribution industry, is seeking an experienced, innovative, and motivated relationship concierge during a period of rapid growth in membership.  This leader will serve in the roles of designer, executor, and continuous improver of NAW’s year-round member engagement strategy, developing meaningful relationships with top executives in the distribution industry and driving membership renewal revenue.

The Director of Corporate Membership is responsible for building meaningful, long-term relationships between NAW and the executive teams of the largest, most successful distribution companies in the United States.  Through the design, execution, and measurement of a year-round member engagement strategy, this leader will set the standard for C-Suite executive engagement in the trade association space and play a critical role in NAW’s membership growth and retention strategy.

Essential Job Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, each essential job responsibility must be performed satisfactorily.  Other responsibilities may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Program Design: Strengthen, digitize, and automate NAW’s member engagement program to create a cadence of meaningful interactions with NAW member executives throughout the calendar year and increase participation in NAW member programs.
  • Member Meetings: Schedule, attend, and lead meetings with CEOs and C-Suite distribution executives, handling the preparation and approach for each meeting. In person and virtual meetings will be a core part of the job.  This person will play a critical role in marketing NAW’s events, working groups, partner programs, and other member benefits through these interactions.
  • Constituent Service: Conduct diligent follow-up after member meetings, addressing action items and identifying broader trends that speak to the need for an enterprise solution.
  • Direct NAW Executive-Level Resources: Deploy NAW’s C-Suite leadership team, including NAW’s CEO, to directly support member engagement with their time, both virtually and through in-person meetings.
  • Building Business Intelligence: Operate in a mode of constant, iterative improvement. Develop strategies and processes for the NAW enterprise to capture business intelligence, analyze that information, and put it to use to regularly enhance membership engagement and help develop new programming to meet evolving member needs.
  • Earning Membership Renewals: Earn membership renewals through a disciplined and data-driven approach to year-round member engagement, culminating in a direct pitch for a membership renewal/sale.

  • Strong knowledge of the distribution industry
  • Ability to cross-sell programs, events, and affinity opportunities

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and work experience, required; Concentration in marketing, business, or sales, desirable
  • 3-5 years of relationship management/sales experience, required
  • Experience selling value-added services and intangible goods, desirable

Other Requirements:

  • Experience interacting with corporate C-Suite executives on a frequent basis, required
  • Direct experience working for a trade or membership association, desirable
  • Experience using CRM tools, required
  • A working knowledge of Salesforce, desirable

Work Environment:  The position is located at our headquarters in Washington, D.C., near Metro Center. Currently, we are operating a hybrid work model, where employees are in the office Tuesday-Thursday, which is a standard office environment and are given an option to work remotely most Mondays and Fridays.

Travel: up to 25% (Monthly travel, U.S. only – no international travel)
