The NAW Billion Dollar Company Operations Roundtable for direct members was created as a new mechanism for the Operations Executives of large distribution enterprises to network with non-competing peers in multiple lines of trade on key operations issues.

Similar to other billion dollar roundtables NAW has created for the CIO, CFO, Chief Legal Officer, and CHRO, this by invitation roundtable is composed of executives from billion dollar companies that meet in Chicago two times per year. This highly interactive group consists of the SENIOR-MOST operations executives. The annual fee is $1,800 per member, which covers meeting costs for two events in a twelve month cycle. Participants are expected to cover the cost of their hotel and travel. Once the annual fee is paid, there are no additional fees to attend the meetings, which will last one day beginning with a reception and dinner the evening before.

The participating companies can also name an alternate who can take the place of the Operations Executive, should that person be unable to attend the scheduled meeting.

Tommy Barnes is the President of project44, where he previously sat on the advisory board before taking on his current role in 2015. Tasked with driving project44’s portfolio of freight API products through relationship development with carriers, shippers, and 3PLs, as well as forging strategic partnerships with TMS and other technology platforms, Tommy relies on his decades of industry experience and leadership.

Prior to project44, Tommy held the positions of President of LTL Services and Senior Vice President of Operations at Coyote Logistics, where he guided operational performance of one of the world’s leading third party logistics companies. He also held the position of President of Multimodal Brokerage at Con-Way, where he was responsible for managing $2.4 billion in freight across multiple modes.

Barnes has a stellar reputation for building some of the industry’s most effective teams, and for his strategic ability to maximize performance and generate growth for his companies. A well-recognized industry leader, Tommy has given numerous keynote addresses regarding the future of logistics and supply chain transportation. Phil Settles joined Border States in 2006 when we acquired Nunn Electric where he had worked since 2001. He has served in a number of positions including Area Operations Manager, Branch Operations Manager and South Central Region Operations Manager, and was selected as one of the first participants in our Management Trainee Program when it was launched in 2006.

Most recently, Phil served as Vice President South Central Region when he joined the Executive Council in 2012. Phil participates in the Associated General Contractors of America and Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC). Phil was named Vice President Operations in April 2013, and promoted to VP Branch Operations on April 1, 2018.

As Executive Vice President, Marketing and Services, Chris Jones is primarily responsible for Descartes marketing activities and professional services for Descartes’ solutions. With over 30 years of experience in the supply chain market, Chris has held a variety of senior management positions including: Senior Vice President at The Aberdeen Group’s Value Chain Research division, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development for SynQuest, Vice President and Research Director for Enterprise Resource Planning Solutions at Gartner and Associate Director Kraft General Foods. Chris is an active member in the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and has numerous articles and blog posts published including a permanent blog on the publication DC Velocity. He has a bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University.
