Delivering for Best-in-Class Wholesaler-Distributors

November 27-28, 2018 at the Hilton O’Hare in Chicago

Please contact Tara Mostatab at if you have any questions.

Daniel (Dan) Lett, General Counsel for Bunzl Distribution USA, talks with Adam Isenberg, NAW Vice President – Corporate Relations, about the value of participating in the semi-annual NAW Billion Dollar Chief Legal Officer (CLO) Roundtable.

The NAW Billion Dollar Company Chief Legal Officer Roundtable for direct members was created as a new mechanism for the Chief Legal Officers of large distribution enterprises to network with non-competing peers in multiple lines of trade on key finance issues.

Similar to other billion dollar roundtables NAW has created for the CIO, CFO, Operations, and CHRO, this by invitation only roundtable is composed of executives from billion dollar companies that meet in Chicago two times per year. This highly interactive group consists of the SENIOR-MOST legal executives. The annual fee is $1,800 per member, which covers meeting costs for two events in a twelve month cycle. Participants are expected to cover the cost of their hotel and travel. Once the annual fee is paid, there are no additional fees to attend the meetings, which will last one day beginning with a reception and dinner the evening before.

The participating companies can also name an alternate who can take the place of the Legal Executive, should that person be unable to attend the scheduled meeting.

If you would like to learn more, please contact Tara Mostatab at 202.263.4080 or

Eligibility: Companies with $1B+ in annual revenue.
The NAW Billion Dollar Roundtable is the only opportunity that provides networking and benchmarking exclusively with other top executives of non competing, like-sized Wholesale-Distribution companies.

Technology for CLOs

Kevin Clem
Managing Director, HBR Consulting

Many CLOs are faced with increasing demand and complexity in legal services to support the business, while simultaneously managing budgets that are flat if not declining. This challenge of “running the law department like a business” has led to significant growth in the field of legal operations. The C-suite expects the legal function to be just as data-driven and technology enabled as other parts of the business, requiring new approaches and practices for running the operations of the law department. In this session, HBR Consulting Managing Director and Law Department Consulting practice leader Kevin Clem will share trends and best practices recommended for the Law Department of the Future. Insights on leading technology and operational benchmarks gleaned from the recently released 2018 HBR Law Department Survey will be shared, providing perspective on the next steps that CLOs can take to continue their path toward operational excellence.

Leading trends and takeaways to be discussed include:

  • Leveraging technology to maximize efficiency and client service delivery
  • The growth of data analytics and dashboards to support data-driven decision making
  • Trends in the use and management of outside counsel and other alternative service providers
  • Top methods employed to manage increasing legal demands

Kevin Clem serves as managing director and leader of the Law Department Consulting practice for HBR Consulting. Kevin directs large-scale transformation efforts through the alignment of people, processes and technology. With over 17 years of advisory consulting expertise counseling corporate law departments, Kevin collaborates with clients to improve operational efficiency and optimize legal operations.

Prior to joining HBR Consulting, Kevin was a founding member and managing director at Huron Consulting Group and a senior consultant at Arthur Andersen.

He serves on the Board of Directors of New Vintage Church in his hometown of San Diego, California.

Kevin spent the first 16 years of his life attending American schools overseas; with time in The Hague, Singapore, and Aberdeen, Scotland. He now spends his vacations instilling that love of travel and global cultures galloping the globe with his wife and three young children.
