Beverly Propst, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Graybar Electric Company, talks with Adam Isenberg, NAW Vice President – Corporate Relations, about the value of participating in the semi-annual NAW Billion Dollar CHRO Roundtable.

The NAW Billion Dollar Company CHRO Roundtable for direct members was created as a new mechanism for the CHRO of large distribution enterprises to network with non-competing peers in multiple lines of trade on key HR issues.

Similar to other billion dollar roundtables NAW has created for the CIO, Operations, CFO, and Chief Legal Officers, this by invitation roundtable is composed of executives from billion dollar companies that meet in Chicago two times per year. This highly interactive group consists of the SENIOR-MOST HR executives. The annual fee is $1,800 per member, which covers meeting costs for two events in a twelve-month cycle. Participants are expected to cover the cost of their hotel and travel. Once the annual fee is paid, there are no additional fees to attend the meetings, which will last one day beginning with a reception and dinner the evening before.

The participating companies can also name an alternate who can take the place of the CHRO, should that person be unable to attend the scheduled meeting.

The Age-Old Question – But What Else Should We Be Asking? Real Talk around HR Suites vs. Point Solutions

While answers have historically centered around IT support, data and system integrations, and/or HR Department level issues, it is often the questions we aren’t asking, or the sequence asked, that can quickly point to the answers we need and allow us to focus on solving for the real problems that help us achieve the outcomes we seek. Is this being driven from business, IT, or HR? Whose and what problems are you trying to solve? Are you an early adopter looking for innovations or a competitive edge? This could differ even within your own HR teams. There are often more questions than answers – or where the answers you get are “…it depends…”.

And even with suites – do we ever really get away from point solutions and integration issues? What if the real question is ‘how do you know when you should use best of breed solutions and what are the tradeoffs?’.  As organizations settle their core systems into the cloud, HR leaders really need to prepare for massive innovation. The good news is, IT AND Vendors can deliver features and functions faster — and acquisitions and integrations into suites can happen quicker than ever before. Therefore, we must include some new questions such as,

  • What are the opportunities during tech transformation to start re-skilling your team for the future and transforming how we work and how work is done?

She has worked diligently through her career with business and HR leaders – both as an internal HR & HR Technology/Strategy practitioner or as a Consultant/Adviser — on radically improving talent strategy, technology, and leadership – as well as the vendors who serve them. With a unique blend of technical, HR practitioner, business and vendor experience, she laughingly describes herself as a bit of a Talent, HR Tech and Future of Work “Whisperer”. Chris has a degree in MIS, with a concentration in AI, from the UGA Terry College of Business. She loves figuring out how the latest trends and innovations in data, tools, and technology can help change the face of HR and the world of work!
