Kari Heerdt, Senior Vice President of New Business Innovation & Transformation for MSC Industrial Supply, talks with Adam Isenberg, NAW Vice President – Corporate Relations, about the value of participating in the semi-annual NAW Billion Dollar CHRO Roundtable.

The NAW Billion Dollar Company CHRO Roundtable for direct members was created as a new mechanism for the CHRO of large distribution enterprises to network with non-competing peers in multiple lines of trade on key HR issues.

Similar to other billion dollar roundtables NAW has created for the CIO, Operations, CFO, and Chief Legal Officers, this by invitation roundtable is composed of executives from billion dollar companies that meet in Chicago two times per year. This highly interactive group consists of the SENIOR-MOST HR executives. The annual fee is $1,800 per member, which covers meeting costs of four events in a twelve-month cycle. Participants are expected to cover the cost of their hotel and travel. Once the annual fee is paid, there are no additional fees to attend the meetings, which will last one day beginning with a reception and dinner the evening before.

The participating companies can also name an alternate who can take the place of the CHRO, should that person be unable to attend the scheduled meeting.

If you would like to learn more please contact Tara Mostatab at 202.263.4080 or tmostatab@naw.org

Eligibility: Companies with $1B+ in annual revenue.
The NAW Billion Dollar Roundtable is the only opportunity that provides networking and benchmarking exclusively with other top executives of non competing, like-sized Wholesale-Distribution companies.

Why Your Corporate Strategy Should Focus on Sustainability and ESG

Sandra Taylor, Former SVP of Corporate Responsibility at Starbucks and CEO of Sustainable Business International

The role and purpose of business in society is evolving at a pace. Customers, investors and employees are demanding that companies play a more active role in progressing social change and provide a sustainable and values-oriented market system. ESG and commercial agendas are now coming closer together – signaling a shift from ‘shareholder capitalism’ to ‘stakeholder capitalism’ – where companies are expected to create long-term value for all their stakeholders.

Takeaways:

  • why ESG is commanding time in the boardroom and is fast becoming a requirement for investors, customers, and employees
  • how to launch your ESG program and the impact of ESG ratings
  • the benefits of building towards future resilience while leveraging the power of all

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Sandra E. Taylor is CEO of SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS INTERNATIONAL, a consulting business she launched in 2008 that assists organizations at various stages of environmental sustainability and social responsibility practice. Taylor’s expertise provides innovative approaches to sustainability strategy, including supply chain sustainability, strategic philanthropy, stakeholder engagement, ESG analysis and social investments.

Previously Taylor was senior vice president of Corporate Responsibility at Starbucks Coffee Company in Seattle, Washington (2003 – 2008), where she led the strategic development and day-to-day direction of all global corporate responsibility programs, including: development of responsible, ethical and sustainable standards for coffee, tea, cocoa supply chains; reduction of the environmental impact of business operations;  community affairs; the Starbucks Foundation and disaster relief support.  At Starbucks tenure Taylor led the creation of C.A.F.E. Legalized Cannabis is Here. What Now?

Rayna H. Jones, Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C.

Our country is dealing with a prescription drug abuse epidemic. Meanwhile, many states have legalized marijuana for medicinal or recreational use.

Now is the time to examine company policies and practices to ensure legal compliance while maintaining focus on workplace safety. State and local laws are in constant flux, often protecting people who use marijuana for medical or recreational purposes. Those laws are at odds with current federal law, as well as many workplace practices. This session will address the shifting legal landscape and discuss recommendations and best practices for handling this complex and developing area.

Key Takeaways:

  • Thoughtful strategies for balancing varied legal requirements across different jurisdictions
  • Approaches to developing testing protocol that is consistent with shifting legal landscape
  • Recommendations for balancing workplace safety concerns with increased legal tolerance for marijuana
  • Tactics for handling disconnect between existing federal law and many state laws (including drivers covered by federal DOT regulations)
